Christchurch is always in the news but a bigger problem now is the Growing isolation, a lack of suitable accommodation and difficulty for disabled citizens to just get around. Those with physical disabilities face an array of challenges in a post-earthquake Christchurch.
The February 2011 quake took away much of the independence they were used to and leaving the footpaths and roads surrounding their homes a minefield. The paths disappeared under mounds of silt or were riddled with cracks and holes.
The end result leaves a large percentage of aged and disabled a lot more isolated than they used to be. It affects their mental health, especially those who just relied on their chairs to get about. In Auckland we at Supercare4u.com do not see the same degree of pressure placed on our clients. Makes me wish we could open up systems in Christchurch.
